Mental Health Awareness Event

The Power of a Conversation – Awooda Wada Hadalka

Al-Nasr Relief Agency (ANRA) hosted a mental health awareness event bringing together members of the Somali community to improve understanding of mental health, reduce stigma, and increase awareness of available support services.

The event focused on parents, young people and families, creating a safe space for discussion with Somali-speaking mental health professionals.

Topics included recognising early signs of mental health difficulties, stress, loneliness, identity, social media influence, and accessing local support services. Faith-sensitive discussions also explored mental health within a cultural context.

A total of 55 people attended from across London, with strong engagement from parents and families. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 26 out of 27 responses confirming the event was useful, and many attendees expressing interest in future sessions.

The event was delivered in partnership with GP Care Group CIC, PCN Network One, WITS, Cycle Sisters, and Hooyo East Somali Cuisine.

The event highlighted the continued need for culturally sensitive mental health education and ANRA’s commitment to supporting families, reducing stigma, and improving access to mental health support.
