Supporting Higher Education

Al Nasr Relief Agency (ANRA) has played an important role in supporting higher education in north eastern Somalia during the early development of Maakhir University, now known as Somali National University (SNU). At a time when the institution had no permanent campus, ANRA provided a temporary learning environment and helped lay the foundation for its future growth.

ANRA constructed five classrooms, ensuring students had access to a safe and suitable place to learn during the university’s first three years of operation. This support enabled the institution to begin serving the local community and establish itself as a centre for higher education.

SNU was the first university in north eastern Somalia and has since made a significant contribution to expanding access to higher education, producing the region’s first cohort of Bachelor’s degree graduates with honours.

In addition, ANRA contributed £3,600 towards the purchase of a school bus and donated a projector to enhance teaching and learning.

ANRA continues to maintain a strong relationship with the university and remains committed to supporting education through its Sponsor a Future Teacher initiative, helping strengthen the quality of education for future generations.
